Top Ten Salad Ingredients

Organize for Success® Turns 10
In honor of 10 years of business for Organize for Success®, I will be posting a "top 10" list to this blog each day through Wednesday, May 31st. Each Sunday, my team will randomly select from those who commented on the prior week's "top 10" blog posts for a gift card giveaway and free download of one eBook from OrganizeForSuccess.biz/shop. The grand prize for celebrating Organize for Success, LLC's 10 years will be awarded on Thursday, June 1st, randomly selecting from all those who commented on any of the month's "top 10" blog posts as well as those who have subscribed to my eNewsletter for a winner to receive downloads of all 5 eBooks, a pass for my Stress and Time Management online video course as well as a 60-minute productivity consultation via video conference.

In honor of this National Salad Month, let's cover my top 10 salad ingredients; although I'm a big fan of chicken salad in a bowl or on a sandwich, I'll focus on the traditional definition of salads, saving room by skipping over the leafy greens and salad dressing options:

10. Blueberries - That bright blue is a great pop for any salad, particularly as some nutritionists believe adding blueberries would be the most important change you could make to your diet.

9. Sliced Almonds - Adding almonds to my salad reduces hunger, promotes healthy weight and lowers cholesterol via lots of healthy fats, fiber, protein, magnesium and vitamin E.

8. Bell Peppers - Particularly when I mix in green, yellow and red bell peppers, they add wonderful color to my salad. Plus, I really like each of their flavors and the texture they contribute.

7. Apple Slices - Whether the variety is Honeycrisp, Fuji, Jazz or Empire, crunchy slices of a sweet, red apple add such delicious flavor, color and texture atop any salad; plus, rich in antioxidants, flavonoids and dietary fiber, apples reduce the risk of cancer, hypertension, diabetes or heart disease.

6. Broccoli - As mentioned in my "top ten favorite foods", broccoli is hands-down my favorite vegetable, and those large, flowering heads are an ideal addition to a fresh salad, providing a flavorful ingredient that's low in calories, has wonderful texture to compliment other components and adds excellent vitamins.

5. Boiled Eggs - I love how this high protein and low-calorie addition better controls my hunger. Plus, I feel like I'm really eating something when I add two halves of an egg to my salad.

4. Green Peas - Having these little, green balls rolling around in my salad seems to add a bit of fun to the meal! Although low in fat and calories, these veggies are high in protein, fiber and micro-nutrients, helping manage weight, fight aging, protect my heart, boost my immune system, provide anti-inflammatory properties, lower bad cholesterol and give me energy.

3. Orange Slices - As oranges scream spring and summer, they add sweet flavor to any salad, providing an abundance of vitamin C, dietary fiber and plenty of helpful vitamins.

2. Salmon - Adding salmon to my salads sneaks in much-needed nutrients, especially omega-3 fatty acids. As a back-up meat, I'd go with grilled chicken, but salmon is definitely my preferred option.

1. Cucumbers - These vegetables offer valuable anti-inflammatory properties, fight infection, boost energy and fill me up while not adding too much weight. I like how they are good for my heart, taste really delicious and provide lots of water to keep me hydrated without drowning myself drinking liquids.

What are your favorite salad ingredients? Are there any on this list you'd like to try?

Top Ten Favorite Tools for Communicating Remotely

Organize for Success® Turns 10
In honor of 10 years of business for Organize for Success®, I will be posting a "top 10" list to this blog each day through Wednesday, May 31st. Each Sunday, my team will randomly select from those who commented on the prior week's "top 10" blog posts for a gift card giveaway and free download of one eBook at OrganizeForSuccess.biz/shop. The grand prize for celebrating Organize for Success, LLC's 10 years will be awarded on Thursday, June 1st, randomly selecting from all those who commented on any of the month's "top 10" blog posts as well as those who have subscribed to my eNewsletter for a winner to receive downloads of all 5 eBooks, a pass for my Stress and Time Management online video course as well as a 60-minute video productivity consultation.

Today, it's my top 10 favorite tools for communicating remotely:

10. UberConference - Make conference phone calls for free without ever needing to enter a PIN. Participants choose whether to call in for themselves or have the conference line call them; then, all folks on the conference line can see on their screens whoever else is on the call, be alerted as to who is speaking at any point in time and easily connect to participants' social media profiles. Plus, if you are leading the meeting, you can seamlessly share your screen with all those on the call, adding a visual element, too.

9. Voxeet - Using technology it calls TrueVoice, these conference calls pride themselves on superior sound quality, including "No garbling. No static. No dropped calls." Whether connecting via your Firefox or Chrome on your computer or an app on your mobile device, you can join a call without ever needing to enter a password or PIN. This tool integrates with Box, Dropbox and Google Drive, offering powerful group messaging to collaborate during the call via voice, text, photos and documents. Each call's host can easily record the meeting or presentation for later sharing and replaying. Further, this tool integrates with Excel, PowerPoint and Word to launch presentations for participants.

8. TeamViewer - There are three instances where this screen-share technology is the ideal solution: If your tech support personnel needs to take control of your computer to solve issues remotely, if you need to access your own computer securely from a distance without using a VPN or if you need to share your computer screen content with folks collaborating remotely who need to view images of complex details. Its powerful security features allow private data, private conversations and private meetings to remain private. Although there is sometimes a delay in moving the mouse versus when you see the cursor move or type, it's a shorter delay than comparable alternatives. Finally, it's free for personal use.

7. Google Hangouts - If you have a login for Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive or any other Google product, you get complimentary access to this tool for video calling, phone calls or messaging others. It is easy to login via an Android app, an iOS app or your Chrome web browser. Whether a one-on-one conversation or a group chat, this tool's messaging allows for sending emoji, photos, GIFs and maps; plus, those conversations can be synced between devices via your Google login. Further, my favorite feature is turning meetings into video conferences with just one tap, where I can see up to 10 participants on-screen at once.

6. GoToMeeting - Subscribers can host unlimited meetings for web audio, screen sharing, a dial-in conference line and HD video conferencing, but there are tiered prices for how many individual logins can participant in each meeting. Those higher tiers also add features like tools to draw on the screen, the ability to record each call, a personal meeting room for participants to chat, mobile apps as well as keyboard and mouse sharing. This is the only solution integrating with Outlook, Gmail, HipChat, Zapier and Salesforce.

5. Skype - This tool allows you to make free video or voice calls to anyone in the world that has a Skype account. Up to 12 participants of group video calls can be seen on-screen at once or you can choose to use this tool for instant messaging that can include emojis, photos and video messages alike as well as regular, ol' phone calls. Plus, Skype calls offer the addition of screen sharing to give great presentations or display step-by-step instructions.

4. Viber - Many families utilize this tool for secure communications with students studying aboard, particularly as it offers cheap international calls and messaging from computer desktops as well as phone apps. This tool enables free text, calling, photo messages and location-sharing between users with no registration, aliases or invitations required and instantly integrates with your contacts.

3. Tango - Video calling via this mobile app is viewed as the best quality available for free. Additionally, it offers free international and domestic calls to any number in the U. S., Canada, Mexico and India as well as low rate calls to anywhere else worldwide. Like Snapchat, this tool offers the ability to paint atop what images are created; meanwhile, you can send stickers, add filters and play games while on a call. Further, its messaging offers the ability to send and receive text, stickers, photos, video and location messages both one-on-one as well as in groups.

2. ooVoo - This free tool lets you video call one-on-one or with up to 12 contacts, recording calls and sharing your screen as you desire. Alternatively, you can choose to message within ooVoo, sending text, pictures and video messages. Choose between Amazon Fire Phone, Android phone, Android tablet, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Mac, Windows phone, PC and Intel® RealSense™ devices for your device on which to use it, and be aware that ooVoo normally has the best quality among similar tools.

1. Zoom - Whether communicating via video conference or simply sharing your screen images, companies love this tool for its ease of use, flexibility and high quality. Adding cross-platform messaging and file sharing, it makes collaboration easier. The free option offers a robust range of features; however, there is tiered pricing to add features like larger meeting sizes, reporting and recordings.

Bonus - FaceTime - This video conferencing tool is included with purchase of any iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch as well as any Mac computer or laptop. If you are a fan of Apple products, before delving into the many cross-platform options available, consider whether this built-in tool might work well enough.

What are your favorite tools for communicating remotely? Are there any on this list you'd like to try implementing? Do you prefer communicating in-person, over the phone, through email or via video conference?

Top Ten Things to Keep in Your Gym Bag

As this is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, today, let's cover the top ten things to keep in your gym bag, particularly to be prepared as you're running there in between other places:

10. Water Bottle - Although it may seem obvious, this is one of the most important items to pack in your gym bag. Having an empty, reusable water bottle that you can refill on-the-go will make sure you are always able to hydrate. I really like the official S'well bottles, which are stainless steel vacuum insulated, come in a variety of colors, keep liquids cold for 24 hours or hot for 12 hours and withstand all sorts of abuse through normal wear and tear.

9. Nutrition Bar - Avoid getting hangry by fueling up pre-workout with a snack. I lean towards options to satisfy my sweet tooth, but pick which of the available healthy options best fits your needs.

8. Protein Drink Mix - Refuel post-workout with a tasty drink. Whether Gatorade, a weight-loss option or something sweet with vanilla or chocolate favor, there are plenty of options that can be added to a singe-serve bottle of milk or water for an easy solution.

7. Workout Clothes - To make sure you always have a tank top, workout pants, sports bra and tennis shoes, keep one of each in your gym bag. A membership to Fabletics allows you to order complete workout outfits form online and have them shipped directly to your home; then, during months you don't want to order, simply tel the website you want to skip that month, and you won't be charged at all. Fabletics offers high quality in a variety of styles, colors, fabrics and sizes to meet anyone's needs.

6. Pair of Socks and Extra Panties - Trying to workout without socks is a recipe for disaster. To prevent any issues, stash a pair in your gym bag, particularly during warmer weather when you're likely arriving to the gym in sandals, which means you won't be wearing socks. The same level of importance applies to having the right underwear, too, so make certain you are properly prepared.

5. Basic First Aid - Whether you choose Band-Aid brand or something else, adhesive bandages keep you able to workout, no matter whether a blister or simple cut might occur, but the need for first aid might not end that simplistically. Be sure to stock your gym bag with a compact sized first aid kit that includes full bandages, tape and gauze in the event of any mishap.

4. Specialty Workout Supplies - Depending on what type of workout you'll be doing, there might be additional items necessary, like a yoga mat, weight-lifting gloves, tennis or racquetball racket, bathing suit, boxing gloves, knee / elbow sleeves and eye protection. Know what you'll be doing before you head to the gyn so you can take the right equipment or, if you regularly do something needing extra supplies, keep those in your bag all the time to make sure you're prepared.

3. Select Toiletries - Use face wipes to swipe make-up off before exercising and clean-up a bit after, which helps fight breakouts. Dry shampoo solves the dilemma of working out with no shower nearby and when you aren't headed home after your workout. BB cream moisturizes your face post-workout while adding subtle coverage to reduce redness and cover any imperfections. Lip balm should be applied before and after each workout to keep your lips hydrated and prevent the distraction of dry lips during any workout. Baby wipes are useful in wiping down any particularly sweaty areas or to clean-up any space during your workout session; then, make sure you have deodorant to reapply post-workout. I recommend keeping some coconut oil in your bag as the uses for coconut oil are endless. And don't forget a brush!

2. Tech Tools - At my gym, our access card is within the smartphone app so it's imperative that I remember to take my phone inside. Likewise, music can be an essential element of working out for many of us so make sure to take some headphones to play your favorite tunes from your phone. JayBird's wireless pair of earbuds fit securely on your ear, have a a sweat-proof warranty and offer 8 hours of battery life. If the locker room offers access to an electrical outlet, keep an extra set of charging cords in your gym bag to recharge your devices before or after working out; the Neet Cable Keepers will protect your charging cables, make it easier to wrap them up for stashing in your gym bag and add color to differentiate which cord goes with which device. Keep your tech tools organized and easily accessible with some sort of zippered bag or the Leather Charger Roll Up from Mark and Graham.

1. Towel - If your gym charges a "towel rental fee", you'll want to avoid it; if your gym doesn't add fees for towels, avoid being left without one when all the clean towel supplies run out. Sweat in your eyes and slippery yoga mats won't help your workout success so be armed with your own towel, preferably a microfiber cloth as it absorbs well and dries quickly. If not a microfiber option, consider Nike's Jacquard Towel, which is small and cotton, coming with a carabiner so you can hook it to your machine for easy access.

What kinds of things do you keep in your gym bag? Are there any on this list that you'll be adding to what you have?

Top Ten Favorite Animals

Organize for Success® Turns 10
In honor of 10 years of business for Organize for Success®, I will be posting a "top 10" list to this blog each day through Wednesday, May 31st. Each Sunday, my team will randomly select from those who commented on the prior week's "top 10" blog posts for a gift card giveaway and free download of one eBook from OrganizeForSuccess.biz/shop. As this is Be Kind to Animals Week, today, let's cover my top ten favorite animals:

10. Lions - These largest cats are keenly able to assert authority when needed, regularly proving how they are incredible fighters and super protective of the others in their family group or pride.

9. Bees - These insects are hard workers, highly protective and the ultimate team players, working together with their hive to produce one of my favorites, honey, the perfect addition to my hot tea.

8. Monkeys - These animals are quick learners, display high sociability and prove to be both clever as well as nimble.

7. Elephants - The largest living terrestrial animals, these are said to "remember everything", inspiring the logo for my favorite app (Evernote); they are strong, intelligent and unstoppable leaders.

6. Tigers - These mammals are believed to be very intelligent, which I'd consider street smart as they hold their own out in the wild; plus, they are the mascot for Clemson University, which is the reigning NCAA national champion for football and where my oldest sister (Sissy Parks) attended undergraduate and graduate school.

5. Horses - These very strong animals are able to function well alone as well as part of a team. Plus, they have been characterized as very productive in both scenarios, often pulling heavy objects or functioning as a much-needed mode of transportation.

4. Dolphins - Considered one of the smartest animals, dolphins move with beautiful fluidity, look out for those in their same group and like to have fun; additionally, they must be in the water, and I have great memories from my childhood of floating past where the breakers were in the ocean with my dad.

3. Butterflies - These insects feed on flower nectar, constantly moving through stages of development and continually becoming more breath-taking over time while exhibiting how we must all learn something new daily to constantly continue our own growth.

2. Dogs - While I prefer the smaller breeds, especially Cockapoo, Miniature Schnauzer and Cocker Spaniel, all dogs are loyal, friendly, protective and usually very active, helping their owners get additional exercise by regularly walking them or playing catch.

1. Eagles - These birds have vision with sharpness that is at least four times that of a person with perfect vision. Eagles are fearless animals with great tenaciousness and full of life. They nurture their youth while soaring to incredible heights, like reaching lofty goals.

Which are your favorite animals and why? Further, what steps will you take to "be kind to animals" this week?

Top Ten Famous Quotes

As my frequent "Wednesday's Words of Wisdom" posts to social media might indicate, I'm a fan of quotes, whether well-known or not-so-well-known, and my favorites fluctuate as I hear new ones; however, here are the top ten in my mind today:

10. "Normal is nothing more than a cycle on a washing machine." - Whoopi Goldberg, an American actress, comedian, television host and human rights advocate

9. "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives." - Jackie Robinson, the first black athlete to play Major League Baseball in the 20th century, who signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and distinguished himself as a talented player as well as vocal civil rights activist

4. 3. "Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success." - Henry Ford, an industrialist who founded Ford Motor Company and sponsored expansion of the assembly line technique for mass production

2. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." - Wayne Gretzky, a Canadian hockey player and National Hockey League Hall of Famer who is arguably hockey's greatest player of all time

1. "Do all the good you can by all the means you can in all the ways you can in all the places you can at all the times you can to all the people you can as long as ever you can." - John Wesley, an Anglican cleric and theologian who, with his brother Charles and fellow cleric George Whitefield, founded Methodism as a religion

Bonus - "I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done." - Lucille Ball, an American actress, comedienne, model, film-studio executive and producer who was best known as the star of the sitcom I Love Lucy (that my maternal grandmother, Mimi / Lucy Ferne Stith, absolutely loved!)

As I'm always looking for new quotes, which are your favorites? Are there any on this list you'd not heard before?

Top Ten Favorite Apps

Organize for Success® Turns 10
In honor of 10 years of business for Organize for Success®, I will be posting a "top 10" list to this blog each day through Wednesday, May 31st. Each Sunday, my team will randomly select from those who commented on the prior week's "top 10" blog posts for a gift card giveaway and free download of one eBook from OrganizeForSuccess.biz/shop. The grand prize package for celebrating Organize for Success, LLC's 10 years in business will be awarded on Thursday, June 1st, randomly selecting from all those who commented on any of the month's "top 10" blog posts as well as those who have subscribed to my eNewsletter for a winner to receive downloads of all 5 eBooks, a pass for my Stress and Time Management online video course as well as a 60-minute productivity consultation via video conference.

As a bit of a techie, narrowing down my favorite tech tools to only 10 is quite a challenge, but, today, here are my top 10 apps:

10. AroundMe - With all my traveling locally or nationwide, this app helps me quickly locate the closest coffee shop, gas station, movie theatre, parking deck, restaurant, grocery store or bank, allows me to search for specific businesses by name and shows the local weather report for wherever I might be located. Although there are separate apps I use for finding hidden treasures while traveling (like Along The Way, CurEat, Detour, Field Trip, Find. Eat. Drink., Gas Buddy, iExit, Offline, Peek and Roots Rated), this tool helps me easily find what I'm seeking amidst my surroundings no matter where I might be when doing the searching.

9. Doodle - Committee meetings, client sessions with corporate teams, planning appointments with those supporting my business efforts, getting my friends together for a girls' night out... There are countless times I need to schedule face-to-face commitments with groups of people. With Doodle, folks vote for which suggested option works best, and we schedule the meeting for whatever time works best for most, eliminating all the back-and-forth emailing.

8. Dropbox - Whether it's a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentation or PDF image, when I'm on-the-go, I must be able to quickly and easily access from any of my devices what files are needed; plus, many files are too large to email while a growing number of recipients are frightful to open unexpected attachments. Dropbox solves each of those issues: I can store files in the cloud to share between devices and easily share links for others to download items I'm trying to share with them.

7. Evernote - Online research, articles to review, training notes, ideas for upcoming workshops, checklists, client session summaries and much, much more... There's simply too much for my little brain to track, particularly since "Our brains are meant for thinking, not remembering", which is why Evernote's ability to help me "remember everything" is vital. My information syncs real-time between all my devices, organization is streamlined through notebooks and tags, I can quickly locate what I need when I need it, and I can easily collaborate with others. Amazing tool!

6. Facebook / Instagram - I am a big fan of the visual impact from scrolling through my Instagram feed; however, it's super frustrating to not be able to hyperlink those images directly to their related content. Facebook answers that quandary by allowing links alongside images, but it can get a bit cluttered at times. Both of these apps are owned by Facebook and make it difficult to see all the content shared by those you are following due to using algorithms; still, they offer great ways to stay connected with my favorite sources for up-to-date information as well as my friends.

5. PaperKarma - Want to cut down on the mail coming into your home or business? No need to go through the hassle of Catalog Choice. With this app, scan your address on the mailing label of what snail mail you've received; it'll block those future mailings. Although this app is on a brief hiatus right now, click on over to its website to be notified when it relaunches soon.

4. Scannable - There are many times I need to convert paper to an electronic file; this app easily captures the paper in my life quickly and beautifully, turning one page or multiple pages into high-quality scans that I can save to the photos on my phone, add to my account in Evernote, put in an online file repository, email someone or include in a text message. A great example is with magazine articles because I prefer reading my magazines in their printed forms but like to retain articles for later reference in an electronic form. Plus, if I use Scannable to scan business cards, the images become rich contacts with LinkedIn details, photos and the ability to add them to my phone's contacts.

3. Venmo - I'm often meeting clients in their offices or out at a public location, making it imperative to have this tool for collecting payments while out and about. Additionally, it's great for repaying friends for ticket purchases or splitting meals at restaurants. It pulls funds from the payee's Venmo account, bank account or debit account, moves money directly to the destination bank account in as little as one business day and is free unless the payment comes from a credit card, when it adds the standard 3% fee to the person making the payment, not whoever receives the money.

2. WRAL's Sports Fan - As a fan of the David Glenn Radio Show, which broadcasts noon - 3pm weekdays statewide across North Carolina, I like to catch what portions I can between appointments or while working on my Mac. Sometimes, I'm not in a position to listen to it on the radio, and this app makes it possible to catch the broadcast from wherever I'm working.

1. Zoom - Meeting virtually with clients nationwide requires a tool for face-to-face connections without having to travel any further than the screen of my tech tool. For 1-to-1 meetings, Zoom is quick, easy and free to use for video conferencing or screen-sharing, which is an awesome combo; then, for events with multiple participants, there are tiered pricing options.

Bonus - MusicID - I enjoy many different kinds of music but often hear a tune I like and wonder about the title / artist. When in doubt, I open MusicID, tap the circle for "Identify" and hold the phone near my speakers. Very quickly, all my questions about the song are answered, and I can hop to iTunes if I want to buy it.

Which apps are your favorites and why? Are there any on this list you'd like to check into further?

Don't Be Rude; Schedule Time For What Matters

One way to truly make every minute matter is to "schedule your priorities". At its truest essence, this means you identify the essential and eliminate the rest. However, there's much more to this than simply eliminating that which does not work towards achieving your desired results nor aligns with your priorities.

Here's the scenario: As our lives get busier or we find ourselves drowning amidst the information avalanche, folks are choosing to be rude, whether consciously or not. A friend, acquaintance or colleague sends you a text, messages you via social media, emails you or calls you with a particular question. She wants to see if you can join her for an event or he needs your help on something specific. Yet, you are overwhelmed by all that is going on in your life, and you either never respond or it takes you days to get back to that person, often making her wait to proceed, missing a deadline to get registered or having the event sellout before you get tickets.

Don't be rude... When you schedule your priorities, it means you make time for what matters. If you delay responding to requests for your time or simply disregard them completely, you are telling the other person that he or she does not really matter to you. Maybe that person is not one of your priorities, which is why you aren't able to find time in your schedule for getting together; eventually, he or she will gather your message about not being important to you, but do you really want the way in which you conveyed that message to reflect poorly on you?

Instead, be upfront about your time limitations and that you have to focus your limited time elsewhere. Maybe you have a short-term project that is really draining your resources, which is something you can share as a specific time drain; however, it could simply be that your interests have changed. Whatever your situation, don't avoid confrontation; be straightforward and professional as you explain that you cannot make time for getting together.

On the other hand, if you come away from experiences with any one person thinking "wow... I really enjoyed that time" or "that was so much fun", maybe you need to rethink how much of a priority that person is and find time in your schedule to invest in that relationship. Sometimes, keeping it low-key and casual makes finding time for a relationship much easier. If you don't have time for going out, could you have a cup of coffee or glass of wine at one of your homes? Could you combine a Zumba class or walk through the park with catching up? Maybe you'd like to video chat via FaceTime, Google+ Hangouts, ooVoo, Skype or Tango

Take action... Is there someone you need to reply to about not being about to get together? Is there a lingering request that needs your attention? Is there someone with whom you need to schedule time for catching up?

Document Your Ideal Clients to Attract Them This Year

There is a positive energy that invigorates us as we work with certain types of people; on the other hand, it can put a drain on our energy reserves when we are working with other types of individuals. As time is a limited resource, to the best of our abilities, it behooves us to invest our time with those who make life more enjoyable; however, it is not always easy to attract into our lives the types of people that invigorate us and bring us joy.

Block out some time to document your ideal client. Focus on those with whom spending time is delightful, client sessions which are such a pleasure that time simply flies. Make sure to write down those clients' age, gender, location, industry, role in company, attitudes, behaviors, beliefs and way in which they interact with others. Focus on the details because they matter!

Once you have a thorough visual of those with whom you want to invest your limited resource of time, it is much easier to attract them into your life, strategically focusing on places, events and activities that will connect you with your ideal client.

Then, take action... Go back to your calendar and schedule in time for the places, events and activities that will attract your ideal client to you, making sure you are not squandering any of your time with folks who drain your energy unless you absolutely must do so. Be strategic and proactive to utilize the comprehensive description created for your ideal client so you can fill your workdays with time spent helping those that create the best partnerships for you and your business.

Do you have a clear understanding of which clients invigorate you, make your sessions more joyful and with whom you really like working? If so, how do you proactively attract them into your business? If not, what steps can you take towards doing so today or this week?

Sharing is Caring

Theodore Roosevelt famously said, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." In today's relationship-driven society, where people are said to do business with folks they "know, like and trust", building that foundation is so integral for one's success. Such an endeavor takes time and energy but is paramount for connecting with others.

I have found the basis for building many of my most valued relationships stems from the understanding that "Sharing is caring", whether I am sharing information, time, a listening ear, a helping hand, a little bit of happiness or whatever might be of value to the person with whom I am sharing. It is about reaching out and creating a connection.

There are so many options for what can be shared with those about whom you care, but here is a sampling of ideas to consider:

- book, eBook or article you've written that might be helpful

- someone else's content that might be of interest to that person

- flowers to brighten up that person's office or home

- a handwritten note to convey your appreciation or share news

- time in-person over coffee, tea, frozen yogurt or a cocktail

- a phone call to catch-up and see how that person is doing

What do you share with those about whom you care to deepen the connection? How can you take action today to share something new and different with someone?

Music Matters

Retailers have been integrating music into marketing campaigns for years to drive behavior, boost consideration and fuel sales. There is a great deal of research about how music affects our moods while driving, particularly for teenage drivers. Researchers have found that time feels like it is moving more quickly while we listen to music, and there is even a book named The Psychology of Music, written by Diana Deutsch, which can be purchased from here. It goes without saying that, yes, music does matter!

Yet, the reach and influence of music's abilities do not stop there. Music can be a very powerful addition to your productivity toolbox. Depending on the type of music you are listening to at any given time, music can help you accomplish all of the following:

- Set the mood

- Motivate behavior

- Stop procrastination

- Drive focus and concentration

- Energize

- Fuel performance

- Calm our spirits

When you are looking to plow through a daunting task, increase the challenge of your workout or recuperate from a stressful day, turn on a song that will help you achieve your desired results. If you are seeking inspiration, Lifehack offers "30 Inspirational Songs that Keep You Motivated for Life" or you can do a quick Google search for "music to ____" and insert what you are attempting.

Is music currently one of the tools in your productivity toolbox? If not, how can you utilize music to drive results?

September Is The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Back in 1963, Andy Williams recorded and released "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" as a Christmas song. However, I would argue quite differently that September is the most wonderful time of the year for me... Most of this month is summer, which typically leads to very favorable weather here in North Carolina, many of my favorite fruits and vegetables are in season, like apples, broccoli, cucumbers, peaches and squash, it's an excellent time to visit Atlantic Coast beaches without 4th of July crowds, I can finally enjoy football and college soccer while getting quite competitive in NFL Fantasy Football... and, very importantly, my birthday is September 20th. Such happiness!

Yet, I think what keeps me most energized throughout this month of the year would have to be how busy I am with my absolutely fabulous clients. I'm reminded frequently how lucky I am to partner with such amazing professionals, and here are just a few of the wonderful things about my clients:

1. Clients of Organize for Success, LLC are passionate about doing excellent work, constantly improving and ongoing learning. I come away from client sessions and workshops enthused by the excitement and eagerness clients share for using my suggestions to become and do better.

2. They are genuinely nice. I have quite a bit of direct interaction with my clients, investing my time, talents and energies in their betterment, and I can attest to how nice they are to me, to other partners, to their co-workers and to their team members.

3. Clients of Organize for Success, LLC like to have fun. While developing habits or learning skills necessary for boosting their productivity might not be their ideal way to spend some time, my clients see the value in these activities and choose to make the process enjoyable. It can be contagious!

4. They are exceptionally great partners. When working together, it is clear that my clients have a respect for what I bring to the table similar to my respect for their unique skill sets and strong work ethic. I know that, together, we can make a difference, and my clients are willing to put forth the effort necessary for fueling real change in their productivity and organization.

5. Clients of Organize for Success, LLC are appreciative. It really is nice to know that my work is helping my clients, and I get notes, calls or comments to reinforce those success stories regularly.

This September, as I celebrate turning another year older, I'm also celebrating how truly blessed I am. All of you busy professionals, entrepreneurs, corporate teams and executives with whom I partner are really awesome, and I'm so appreciative of the confidence you entrust in me daily. Thank you!

Is It Time To Re-Start Your New Year's Resolutions?

This year was going to be different, right? Yet, now that we are a few weeks into the new year, are you struggling with your new year’s goals? Might you be backsliding a bit? Have no fear… You can restart at any time! Take a moment to check out my “Apps, Websites and Tech Tools To Move You Towards Your Goals” post at http://wp.me/p3M0SC-2h8 for tech tools that can help you veer back onto the right path for your resolutions. Meanwhile, there are additional steps you can start this week to be more efficient, waste less time and open space in your life for achieving the goals and resolutions you set for this new year. Here are a few ideas:

    •          Streamline your calendar system with (a) one place for all your time commitments, (b) all activities documented and (c) starting the habit of regularly reviewing that planner to start as well as end each day.

    •          Schedule your weekly strategy session as a repeating event on your calendar, giving you the opportunity to outline your game plan for attacking each week’s to-do items, appointments and opportunities for personal / professional growth.

    •          Organize your paper and electronic filing solutions with (a) a purge of outdated contents or overstuffed files and (b) a verification that everything in your workspace has a home as well as that each item is in its assigned location.

    •          Systematize your “drop zone” upon entry and exit of your home and office so you aren’t scrambling to find your car keys as you’re running out the door.

    •          Consolidate your contact system into (a) one address book, (b) updated information included for each person’s record and (c) starting to build a foundation for your system of continually inputting updated / additional contact information as it is brought to you by your contacts.

    •          Make certain you have a tax folder easily accessible to hold incoming documentation for the year that recently ended; then, create another file for tax-related items coming in for this new year, too.

While all of these action items in one list might seem a bit overwhelming, think of how you can break them into bite-sized portions to do each one throughout the remainder of the month. Alternatively, is there someone to whom you can delegate any of these items? Or is it time to pick which one is most relevant to your needs and bring me back in for a “check-up from the neck up” on that particular area of focus? No matter which path to productivity you choose, take time to act now because you can make a difference.

What did YOU resolve for 2014? Have you had success? If not, which of these techniques can you implement this week to open up time for moving you towards your goals? I look forward to our dialogue with your comments below.
